Shockwave is Best as a Monster
Growing up I loved G1 and Animated Shockwave, but neither of them really felt like my definitive versions of the character. In my mind, they just had too much overlap with Soundwave.
Prime shockwave felt like closer to what I wanted the character too be, but he still wasn’t really there yet. I think the thing that was holding the character back from being perfect in my eyes was his devotion to Megatron which, once again, brought him too close in line with Soundwave for my liking.
But then I read the Marvel and IDW and I felt like I finally GOT IT!
It’s an idea that is mostly inspired by his appearance. Shockwave looks the most “inhuman” out of all the deceptions due to his lack of a face. So it would also make sense for him to be the most inhuman in terms of personality.
I assume you all know where I’m going with this so I’ll cut the rest of the explanation short and just leave it at this:
Starscream is the schemer, Soundwave is the watcher, but Shockwave…
